After a short respite, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will return to the pay-per-view (PPV) market tonight (Sat., March 14, 2015) in Dallas, Texas, as the American Airlines Center plays host to the absolutely stacked UFC 185 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, highlighted by two title fights in the lightweight and women's strawweight divisions, respectively.

Why It Matters: If you are even a casual mixed martial arts (MMA) fan, you do not want to miss out on this PPV. What storyline should we delve into first? The blossoming superstar that is the UFC lightweight champ in Anthony Pettis? How about the inaugural UFC women's strawweight champ Carla Esparza defending her belt for the first time against the Polish sensation Joanna Jędrzejczyk? Still not good enough for you? Don't fret, UFC mainstays Johny Hendricks, Matt Brown, Roy Nelson, and Alistair Overeem will all be throwing down in Dallas tonight. Yep, this is one heck of a card.

What's Hot: The PPV main card. Two title fights, a No. 1 welterweight contender bout, a heavyweight bangfest, and a flyweight contest featuring the highly touted Olympic gold medalist in Henry Cejudo? Sign me up! For all the flak UFC brass has taken for putting together incredibly weak PPV's that are often not worth the $50-60 price tag, UFC 185 is well worth the price of admission. These are the type of events UFC and MMA fans live for.

What's Not: Nothing on this card can be categorized as a "black eye" per se. Sure the "Prelims" are not that stacked, but you still get to witness names in Ross Pearson, Sam Stout, Sergio Pettis, Daron Cruickshank, and more! Simply put, UFC 185 is a great card and there is nothing inherently wrong with it whatsoever.

Original Card vs Actual Card:

The injury bug almost completely stayed away from the Dallas PPV, but UFC veteran Vagner Rocha was injured in training and pulled from his scheduled "Prelims" bout against UFC debutant Joseph Duffy. In Rocha's place, UFC brass gave Jake Lindsey the opportunity to take on the highly touted prospect on short notice.

New Blood:

Joseph Duffy (vs. Jake Lindsey): The last man to defeat featherweight No. 1 contender Conor McGregor has finally made his way stateside for his Octagon debut. The 27-year old Irishman boasts an impressive 12-1 record, including eight submission victories alongside three (technical) knockouts.

How The "Prelims" Look: Certainly solid on paper, but it remains to be seen whether or not the fights actually deliver. The UFC 185 "Prelims" are absolutely riddled with prospects from Sergio Pettis to Joseph Duffy to Elias Theodorou and so on, but some of these match-ups have an ominous feeling that fans could be in for a snooze fest.

Hopefully, I am wrong and the "Prelims" set the tone for an enthralling evening of action!

If you are to watch only one fight on the "Prelims," I strongly suggest catching Joseph Duffy's UFC debut on Fight Pass. Will the Irishman explode onto the scene like "The Notorious" one, or will he fall flat against Lindsey? We will find out in just a few short hours!

Who Needs A Win Badly: This portion is reserved for fighters who could be fighting for their jobs tonight, rather than contenders or title challengers needing victory. Let's take a look at those who need to pull it together:

Jake Lindsey (vs. Joseph Duffy): "The Librarian" came into UFC with an undefeated 9-0 pro MMA record, and has quickly dropped two consecutive via finish to middle-of-the-pack fighters in Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Jon Tuck. If Lindsey can't find his footing in his third Octagon appearance this evening, he likely won't have a job in the world's leading MMA organization come Monday.

Interest Level: 9/10

The 10/10 is reserved for a card like UFC 187, but let's get one thing straight: I am absolutely ecstatic for UFC 185.

While nearly every fight on the card piques my interest, I find myself captivated by "Showtime." If Pettis can easily dispatch of Rafael dos Anjos in the evening's main event, he will be one step closer to becoming the new face of UFC today.

With the stars of yesteryear slowly fading (Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, Shogun Rua, Dan Henderson, etc.), Pettis has the panache a champion needs to become a true superstar. With Jon Jones and Ronda Rousey currently leading the pack, one more show-stopping performance from the UFC lightweight kingpin could quickly see the champ skyrocket into a super stardom.
