General Event Information
As in 2014, the 2015 Australian 10km Open Water Swimming Championships will be held in Perth, WA as part of the BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series. The event will take place on the Swan River (Barrack Street Jetty) on Sunday 1 February 2015.
The 2015 Australian Open 5km, MC Open 5km and Age (all distances) Open Water Swimming Championships will be held at Bathers Beach in Fremantle, Perth, from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 February 2015.
The event will showcase Australia's top open 5km and age group open water swimming talent, and will see Age Group Champions crowned in both the 5km and 10km distances and Open Champions crowned in the 5km and MC 5km distance. This event will also act as one of the selections events for the 2015 FINA World Championships - Open Water in Kazan, Russia.
Pre-Race Briefings - There will be a compulsory pre-race briefing for all competitors prior to each event, see schedule for times. Location - TBC
JX Clinic and 2.5km Swim - The JX clinic will commence at 11.00am sharp the meeting. Location - TBC
Swimsuit By-Law Changes
OWBL7 All Open Water swimsuits shall comply with the FINA approved standards in all respects or comply with CBL15.1.3 (traditional swimwear). Open Water swimwear, for both Men and Women, shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor shall extend below the ankle.
Based on this change, age group athletes are now permitted to wear any FINA approved OWS swimwear when competing in open water events. Please note that CBL15.2 no longer applies to age group athletes competing in OWS events.
Important Entry Information
As the Age and Open 5k events swim as one event you cannot enter both events. You must enter either the Open or the Age event.
Accreditation
A Photo Accreditation System will be implemented to manage access to the course during the 2015 Australian Open Water Swimming Championships.
All athletes and technical officials will receive an accreditation pass for the event (this will need to have been sorted prior to event day). Athletes will be required to hand their accreditation pass to the technical official in the role of check starter before they enter the water, and can collect their pass again when exiting the water at the conclusion of the race.
An accreditation desk will be set up in the registration area for accreditation collection prior to the first pre-meet session commencing. Following this, accreditation passes will need to be collected following the Team Leaders meeting.

Bathers Beach is a well-known swimming and recreation area in Fremantle, located on the waterfront with a backing of the green of Arthurs Reserve and Fremantle Park. It is located about 20km from the heart of Perth CBD, Western Australia.

Paid car parking is available in the public parking areas located off Mews Rd and also along Marine Terrace located nearby Bathers Beach.

Marquees & Pop-Up Tents
PLEASE NOTE: There is limited shade protection provided at the venue and Swimming Australia advises all spectators to bring their own portable shade options (marquees, beach umbrellas etc.) to protect themselves from the sun. There will be a designated area assigned to set up portable shade options. Please do not set up in any areas outside of this space. This will be signed and close to the water entry and exit.
Any popup tents or structures on grass and sand need to be weighted down and no pegging allowed due to council regulations, they also need to PACKED DOWN on Friday and Saturday nights.
Refreshments at the Venue
The Beach House Café, located on the Bathers Beach Reserve, will be available for light refreshments during the event.
Participants and spectators are able to bring in their own food/beverages, and are asked to dispose of any rubbish responsibly in the bins provided.
Please Note: If you are planning on eating out in Fremantle on a Saturday night, it is recommended you make a booking as it is Valentines Day.
Toilets and Amenities
There is limited access to public facilities in the area surrounding Bathers Beach. Public toilets can be found in the Esplanade Park (approx. 250m behind Bathers Beach) for spectators to use.
Additional toilets and change facilities will be provided for exclusive use of competitors only. Please note that these facilities will not be available for spectator use. Temporary facilities will be set-up closer to the water entry/exit point toward the Ritchie Boulevard end of the Bathers Beach Reserve.
Merchandise
Speedo Australia will sell merchandise at the event from Friday 13 February and will continue selling until all stock is SOLD OUT.
The Speedo Australia merchandise marquee will be located near the competition area.
